Cachar: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Cachar District Police, seized heroin worth approximately ₹60 lakh and apprehended a drug peddler on February 2. Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the joint team conducted a targeted operation near Nandankanan Bridge in the Jirighat Market area, about 8 km west of Jaliura. During the raid, security personnel recovered 10 boxes containing 116.2 grams of heroin, reportedly destined for illegal distribution in the region.

One suspect was arrested on the spot, and authorities also seized a mobile phone, ₹5,500 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw allegedly used for transporting the narcotics. Officials stated that the operation’s success was due to effective intelligence sharing, seamless coordination between the forces, and a swift response on the ground.
The seized heroin, along with the arrested individual and other materials, has been handed over to the Cachar District Police for further investigation and legal action. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking in Assam.
