Assam Shines at 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championship in Chennai

Guwahati: The Assam Masters Athletics contingent delivered an inspiring performance at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championship 2025, held from November 5 to 9 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Competing against athletes from 21 countries across a wide range of track, field, jump, throw and relay events, the Assam team showcased outstanding skill and sportsmanship, contributing significantly to India’s top-ranking finish.

India dominated the championship with a total of 814 medals, including 457 in the men’s category and 357 in the women’s. Assam athletes made a remarkable contribution, winning 6 Gold, 13 Silver and 7 Bronze medals (excluding relay events), marking an exceptional achievement for the state.

Among the standout performers were Champa Gogoi, who clinched three medals including two Gold in Shot Put and Hammer Throw, and Haren Buragohain, who secured Gold in the M80+ 100 m sprint. Other notable medalists included Anima Sonowal, Minu Saikia, Marjina Begum, Nirumai Deuri, Jadu Gogoi, and several others who excelled in their respective age categories and disciplines.

Assam athletes also represented India in relay events, with Shewali Nath, Mamoni Saikia, Mayabati Basumatary and Rita Borchetia helping secure Silver and Bronze for the country.

The Assam Masters Athletics Association, led by lifelong president Arjun Bhogeshwar Baruah, congratulated all participating athletes from across the state and extended best wishes for future international successes.
