Guwahati: A high-stakes international dimension has been added to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Assamese music icon Zubeen, with a two-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) delegation from Assam scheduled to depart for Singapore on Monday. This crucial field visit, the first outside India since the high-profile probe began, underscores the complexity and cross-border nature of the case, which has attracted intense public scrutiny and emotional appeals for justice across Assam.
The team, led by SIT Chief Munna Prasad Gupta, Special DGP (CID), and accompanied by Investigating Officer Tarun Goel, is tasked with executing a critical on-ground investigation in the island nation. Reports indicate the primary objective is to meticulously retrace Zubeen’s movements and verify the sequence of events during his final trip to Singapore, which has been identified as a crucial component of the larger probe. Prior to this visit, ten Assamese expatriates residing in Singapore reportedly extended their cooperation by sharing vital information with the SIT. Their statements have been instrumental in helping investigators identify key contacts and engagements believed to be central to understanding the events leading up to the singer’s death.
During their stay, the SIT team plans a comprehensive line of action. This includes coordinating with Singapore Police authorities to review shared evidence and reports, inspecting the specific locations where Zubeen resided or visited, and examining electronic and financial trails for potential clues. Furthermore, the team is set to collect documentary and CCTV evidence relevant to the investigation and interact with individuals who had direct or indirect contact with the late artist while he was abroad. Upon its return, the SIT is expected to compile and submit a comprehensive report detailing the findings from this overseas investigation to the Assam government. Further updates on the progress of the probe are anticipated as the international leg of the investigation unfolds.
