Assam: State Honours for 818 Young Writers in ‘Year of Books 2025’ Initiative

GUWAHATI – As part of the ‘Year of Books 2025’ (Grontho Borsho) celebrations, the Government of Assam has selected 818 writers under the age of 40 for the prestigious ‘Yuva Lekhak Sanman’ (Young Writers’ Honour).

The initiative aims to encourage creative literary pursuits across a diverse linguistic landscape. The selected recipients represent a wide array of languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Mising, Karbi, and Nepali, alongside various other ethnic languages of the state.

The formal presentation of the awards is scheduled to take place on 24 December at the Assam Book Fair grounds, located at the College of Veterinary Science field in Khanapara.

The ceremony, beginning at 4:00 pm, will be presided over by the Honourable Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Each of the 818 selected writers will receive a one-time financial grant of ₹25,000 as a token of inspiration for their continued contribution to literature.
