Tezpur: Bringing laurels to the State with a rich medal haul the Assam team of Masters Athletes showed an impressive performance at the 46th National Masters Athletics Championship 2026, held recently at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium and the Kerala University Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.The prestigious event saw participation from over 3,500 veteran athletes from across the country, representing associations recognised by the Masters Athletics Federation of India.
A 127-member Assam contingent competed in the championship and clinched medals in both team and individual categories. The team won medals in the 4×100 metres and 4×400 metres relay events, in addition to an outstanding individual medal tally of 23 gold, 41 silver and 34 bronze medals aggregating to a total of 98 medals. International veteran athlete Narayan Burhagohain led the Assam team as Manager.

Meanwhile, Bidyut Bijoy Mahanta, executive member of the Masters Athletics Federation of India and general secretary of the Masters Athletics Association of Assam, informed that performances at this championship would form the basis for selection of the Indian team for the upcoming World Masters Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in July–August at Daegu, South Korea’s third-largest city.
