GUWAHATI, Sept 26: The Assam government will distribute more than three lakh bicycles to Class 9 students across the state to improve access to schools and encourage students to continue their education, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Sharing the information, Sarma said the initiative would make daily journeys to school easier, safer and more dependable for students.
According to the Chief Minister, the bicycle distribution programme is expected to improve regular school attendance, reduce dropouts and strengthen access to secondary education.
The initiative will also support students in continuing their academic journey towards higher secondary education.
The programme follows an Assam Cabinet decision and focuses on reducing transportation-related barriers while encouraging greater participation in school education across the state.
