Guwahati, Feb 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 2 reaffirmed the state government’s uncompromising position on illegal immigration, asserting that no undocumented infiltrator would be allowed to remain in the state and that swift action would be taken to deport them to their country of origin.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Sarma said that eight illegal infiltrators had recently been pushed back from Cachar district. Stressing a zero-tolerance approach, the chief minister warned that those involved in illegal entry would be dealt with firmly by security agencies, making it clear that there would be no relaxation in enforcement. He underscored that the government would act decisively and without delay in such cases.
The statement comes against the backdrop of intensified operations targeting undocumented migrants, especially in Assam’s border and riverine areas. The issue of illegal immigration has long been a sensitive and contentious matter in the state due to Assam’s extensive and porous international boundary with Bangladesh.
Sarma’s remarks signal the continuation of the government’s strict policy framework on border security and migration control, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent illegal crossings and address demographic and security concerns linked to undocumented migration.
