Assam University Launches State-of-the-Art Cricket Facility

Silchar:  Assam University, Silchar has significantly upgraded its sports infrastructure with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Cricket Bowling Machine and Net Practice Booth featuring an Astroturf pitch at the University Sports Complex on Saturday, October 25.

The facility was jointly inaugurated by Professor Majhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, and Professor Kameshwar Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of South Bihar. The ceremony witnessed a vibrant gathering of Sports Board members, faculty, officials, students, and staff.

The distinguished guests praised Professor Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, for his visionary leadership and continuous efforts to enhance the university’s sports infrastructure.

Dr. Lalzo S. Thangjom, Director (in-charge) of the Assam University Sports Board, expressed gratitude to Prof. Pant and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Engineering Cell and Sports Board in successfully commissioning the project. Dr. Thangjom highlighted that the new equipment will revolutionize cricket training on campus by enabling technology-assisted, precision-based practice sessions, thereby boosting the performance and competitiveness of university cricketers.

Prominent attendees at the event included Professor Piyush Pandey (Director, IQAC), Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharjee (Director, CDC), Debanand (Assistant Engineer, Engineering Cell), and Sports Board members Dr. Sidhartha Sharma, Anand Kumar Singha, and Niranjan Das, among others.

The inauguration marks a major step forward in Assam University’s commitment to providing advanced sports facilities and fostering talent development among its students.
