Assam Unveils Rs 17,235 Crore Connectivity Plan to Upgrade Road Infrastructure

GUWAHATI, July 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced a proposed investment of Rs 17,235 crore for a major infrastructure programme aimed at enhancing road connectivity and strengthening the state’s transport network.

Sharing the announcement on X, Sarma described the initiative as one of the most ambitious connectivity expansion plans undertaken in Assam, saying it would significantly improve mobility across the state.

The proposed package includes the four-laning of the Baihata Chariali–Mission Chariali corridor, construction of the Guwahati Airport–Jalukbari Elevated Corridor, and a new bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Morigaon and Darrang districts.

“With a planned investment of Rs 17,235 crore, we are driving one of the most ambitious connectivity overhauls in Assam till date,” the chief minister said.

According to the government, the projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time and strengthen transport links between key parts of the state. The proposed Morigaon–Darrang bridge is also expected to provide an additional crossing over the Brahmaputra, improving connectivity between north and south Assam.

The announcement is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to expand transport infrastructure, support economic development and improve connectivity across Assam.
