Guwahati, May 26: Assam BJP leader Bhupen Bora on May 26 expressed confidence that Assam would witness major economic and social transformation under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, citing the government’s long-term development roadmap presented during the Assembly session.
Speaking to reporters, Bora said the chief minister had outlined a structured plan for strengthening the state’s economy and steering Assam towards becoming a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by the 2028–29 financial period.
He said the government was optimistic that the state would achieve rapid economic growth under Sarma’s leadership and described the chief minister’s approach as dynamic and mature.
Bora also referred to the government’s welfare agenda, stating that reducing the Below Poverty Line (BPL) population remained one of its major priorities. According to him, the chief minister had expressed the goal of bringing down the BPL population from the present level of around 17 per cent to nearly one or two per cent in the coming years.
Highlighting healthcare-related objectives, Bora said the government was also focused on improving maternal health indicators in the state. Referring to the chief minister’s vision for the sector, he stated that efforts would be directed towards significantly reducing Assam’s maternal mortality ratio.
He said the chief minister’s response to the Governor’s address reflected the expectations and aspirations of the people of the state and expressed confidence that Assam would witness substantial development over the next five years.
