CCTV footage showing Assam’s Himashree Boro boarding a moving train has emerged as railway police investigate her disappearance and subsequent death in Andhra Pradesh.
The footage shows Boro walking along a railway platform before an unidentified man approaches her and appears to speak to her. As the train begins to leave, she boards along with other passengers. The man also appears to attempt to board but later gets off the train.
A separate video, reportedly recorded by Boro during the journey and sent to a friend, has also surfaced. She is seen standing in the train aisle surrounded by several men. Investigators have yet to establish when or where the video was recorded or identify the people seen around her.
Boro, who lived at Chapaidong near Bonda in Narengi on the outskirts of Guwahati, had travelled to Visakhapatnam on September 30 with an Assamese dance troupe for a programme. She later began her return journey to Guwahati on the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express and was travelling alone.
Her family said they remained in contact with her during the journey and last spoke to her at around 1.30 pm on October 6. Her phone was subsequently switched off, leaving the family unable to reach her.
Following the loss of contact, family members searched coach S2, where Boro had been travelling, and found two bags and documents believed to belong to her.
The family also alleged that some young men travelling in the same coach had made obscene gestures towards Boro. They further said she had been in frequent contact with a woman identified as Jyoti Choudhury. The allegations have not been independently established.
The family informed the Railway Protection Force and the Panikhaiti police outpost in Guwahati and appealed for information about her whereabouts.
Railway police later recovered Boro’s body beside a railway track at Tekkalipuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Wednesday and informed her family.
Investigators have collected CCTV and other video footage relating to her journey. The cause of her death, the circumstances in which she left the train and whether anyone else was involved remained under investigation.
