A youth has accused forest personnel of assaulting him and attempting to falsely implicate him in a drug trafficking case in Assam’s Kachuwa area, leading to a police complaint and allegations of abuse of authority.
According to the complainant, the incident took place near an eviction site where he had stopped his scooter by the roadside to make a phone call. He alleged that an argument broke out after a person, later identified as a forest guard, confronted him, following which he was physically assaulted.
The youth claimed he was unaware that the individual was a forest official because the person was not wearing an official uniform at the time of the incident.
He further alleged that despite apologising and pleading for mercy, he was taken to a nearby forest camp, where he was subjected to further physical assault by forest personnel.
The complainant also made a serious allegation that officials at the camp placed a container containing suspected narcotics in his hands and photographed him in an attempt to falsely implicate him in a drug trafficking case.
The allegations have raised questions regarding the origin of the suspected contraband and the circumstances under which it was allegedly used to frame the youth.
Following the incident, the complainant filed a complaint at Kachuwa Police Station seeking legal action against those allegedly involved. He was later referred to a hospital in Nagaon for advanced medical treatment.
No official response had been issued by the Forest Department or the police at the time of filing this report. The allegations made by the complainant have not been independently verified, and an official investigation is awaited.
