Guwahati, Jan 20: Young Assamese writer and science communicator Asik Ahmed has been honoured with the Padma Shree Global Excellence Award 2026, a national-level recognition presented by Jeevan Jagriti Seva Sansthan for his sustained contributions to literature, science communication and media.
Ahmed, a youth writer from Assam’s Nalbari, has built a strong presence through his writings in several Assamese newspapers and digital news platforms. His work reflects a consistent effort to simplify knowledge and make it accessible to readers across age groups. He is the author of four books — Samayar Sotat Chintadharar Paribartan, Bibidh Vigyan, Sampratik Shomoy and Hridoyar Anubhab — which highlight his engagement with contemporary thought, science and human experiences.
In January 2020, Ahmed served as a Science Worker with the Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatha and was closely associated with the “Science Exhibition on Wheels”, an outreach initiative supported by the National Council for Science and Technology and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Through interactive demonstrations, low-cost experiments and explanations of everyday scientific phenomena, the initiative aimed to spread scientific awareness among students, teachers and rural communities.
Apart from his literary and science outreach work, Ahmed has been a familiar face on media and news platforms, appearing as a guest in more than 29 programmes where he explained the science behind his magical activities. He has also collaborated with the Pub Nalbari Assam Block Aryabhatta Science Centre. His book Bibidh Vigyan was published last year by Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatha, further strengthening his role in popular science communication.
Alongside these efforts, Ahmed has rendered notable service in the news media, using journalism as a medium to promote social development and public awareness. Recognising his consistent and multi-dimensional contributions over the years, the awarding body selected him for the Padma Shree Global Excellence Award 2026 in January.
The honour underlines Asik Ahmed’s emergence as a dynamic young writer and communicator whose work continues to inspire youth and encourage a culture of curiosity, learning and innovation across Assam through literature, media and science communication.
