Assamese Cultural Icon Syed Sadulla Critical with Blood Cancer, on Ventilator Support

Assam’s revered singer, lyricist, and composer, Syed Sadulla, is in a critical condition and fighting for his life at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being diagnosed with a severe blood-related ailment. The veteran artist, also a former radio announcer, is a celebrated figure whose contributions have profoundly shaped Assamese music and culture over the decades. His sudden hospitalization has prompted widespread concern across the state.

Hospital sources have officially confirmed that Sadulla is suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), an aggressive form of blood cancer. Adding to the gravity of the situation, the artist is also battling acute respiratory distress stemming from hypoxia-related complications. The medical team at GMCH has categorized his condition as critical due to the compounding illnesses.

Given his rapidly deteriorating breathing, doctors have had to place the veteran artist on ventilator support to assist his respiration. A specialized and dedicated team of medical experts is currently providing intensive care and is closely monitoring his volatile health parameters.
