Guwahati, Feb 26: Rupam Gogoi, a resilient youth from Assam, has set off on an extraordinary 7,000-kilometer cycling expedition from the Merapani region of Golaghat district to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Departing on Thursday, February 26, from Gomariguri—a site of historical significance along the Assam-Nagaland border—Rupam is carrying the national tricolour and a powerful message of sustainability. This ambitious trek is designed to serve as a mobile campaign for ecological consciousness, aiming to inspire a global movement toward environmental protection and a pollution-free world.
The journey is as much a test of physical endurance as it is a platform for advocacy. Rupam plans to navigate diverse terrains and fluctuating climatic conditions, maintaining a rigorous pace of 80 to 100 kilometers per day. Over the course of approximately four months, his route will cut across several Indian states before he crosses into Sri Lanka. By linking these distant geographical points, he hopes to demonstrate that the fight against climate change and pollution transcends all borders and requires a collective, international effort.
Before pedal hit the pavement, Rupam emphasized that the core objective of his cross-country ride is to encourage everyday citizens to adopt environmentally responsible habits.
