‘Assamese nation has retention only, there is no desertion’: Dr. Goswami

Tezpur: ‘Assamese nation has retention only, there is no desertion.’  said Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami, President of Asam Sahitya Sabha recently while addressing the Janagosthiya Samannay Sammilan (Ethnic Coordination Meet) at West Kalabari Higher Secondary School in Gohpur in Biswanath district. ‘we do not know the languages of other ethnic communities even after residing beside them. We must learn each other’s languages and immerse ourselves in them, since we are one; and our essence is also the same.’ Added Dr Goswami. Emphasising unity, peace, and cooperation Dr Goswami urged, ‘Through coordination, we must stand together, though Assam has been fragmented for a section of politicians.’

          During his speech as Chief Guest Dr Goswami also stated that the government must take responsibility to end the current crisis and eliminate forces that destroy our society. Shading light over unrest felt in our society Dr Goswami in his speech urged the parents to embrace their children as family members rather than to treat them as guests. .   Delivering the introductory speech in the concluding session of Janagosthiya Samannay Sammilan organized with two-day programme from Thursday by the Swajatiya Maitribandhan Sub-committee of Asam Sahitya Sabha in support of the Biswanath District Sahitya Sabha and hosted by Kharaiporia Swarna Sahitya Samaj,Asam Sahitya Sabha Principal Secretary Debojit Bora said,’ “The Asam Sahitya Sabha is tirelessly working to foster coordination among different ethnic groups. Sabha is to offer equal dignity to every indigenous community of the state to shape the Assamese identity and the Assamese nation.’

          Vice President of the Sabha Padum Rajkhowa attending the programme as keynote speaker added, “Assam is a land of diverse ethnic groups. Every community must be provided opportunities for development and prosperity. Governments must recognize their responsibility and ensure that the pain of these communities is understood and addressed.” He also urged the Government of India to grant tribal status to communities like Moran-Motok and Koch-Rajbongshi.

The event attended by prominent leaders including former General Secretary Jadab Chandra Sharma, President of All Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha Dr. Chintamani Sharma, Convener of Swajatiya Maitribandhan sub-committee Ramen Bharali, Secretary of Mising Agam Kebang  Someswar Koptak, Vice President of Mising Kendriya Sanskritik Sabha Bharat Mili, Secretary of ATTSA Nilotpal Rabidas, Asam Sahitya Sabha steering committee member Dhiren Sarma, Director of Sabha’s translation project Hridayananda Gogoi, organising secretary Dulal Nath, central publicity convenor Sankusiddha Nath,Kabi Sanmilan Upasamiti convener Naba Rajan, sahitya sabha officials and representatives from different organisations  Manasi Saikia, Sanjib Bora,Prabin Hazarika,Umananda Barua, Upen Hazarika,Guna Bhuyan, Bipul Kumar Dihingia, Md Golam Rosul Ali, Tarun Barua, Jagyeswar Hazarika, Apurba Phukan, Dilip Kumar Sarma,Sobhan Saikia, Dhrubajyoti Bora, Bankim Barua, Anu Prava Devi, Assistant Commissioner of Dibrugarh district Trisiddha Nath and other dignitaries were  enthralled by the performance  of Dihanam, ethnic cultural performances of  Mising, Tea Tribe, Bodo, and Nepali . President of the Swajatiya Matri Bandhan upasamiti Bipul Sarma Barua delivered the welcome address of the programme concluded with a large gathering of literary enthusiasts and representatives from various communities.
