Guwahati: The artiste community of Assam has come together in a powerful online campaign demanding a transparent and thorough investigation into the alleged negligence by authorities that led to the untimely demise of legendary singer Zubeen Garg on September 19, 2025.
The petition, titled “We, the artiste community of Assam, demand a strict, transparent and thorough investigation in the case of the utter negligence on the part of the concerned authorities towards the health and well-being of Zubeen Garg,” has quickly gained momentum across social media platforms. Within hours of its launch, hundreds of people — including fellow artistes, fans, and cultural advocates — joined the call for justice, amplifying the movement’s emotional resonance across the state.
Supporters of the campaign have emphasized that this is not only a demand for justice but also a broader appeal for accountability and respect towards the artistic community in Assam. Many expressed that Zubeen’s death represented not just the loss of an artiste but the silencing of a voice that defined the cultural heartbeat of the state.
Adding a heartfelt personal touch to the initiative, Dr. Palme Borthakur, Zubeen Garg’s younger sister, shared the petition link on her Facebook profile with an emotional caption:
“ন্যায়ৰ বাবে জৰুৰী! #JusticeForZubeenGarg” — translating to “Justice is essential! #JusticeForZubeenGarg.”
