Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on February 16 presented a supplementary budget of ₹25,898.97 crore for the financial year 2025–26 in the Assam Legislative Assembly, marking a key financial exercise during the final session of the current House.
The supplementary budget, introduced as the List of Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 2025–26, was tabled on the opening day of the Budget Session, which began with the Governor’s Address. The Assembly is scheduled to discuss the supplementary demands on February 18.
The four-day session, running from February 16 to February 19, represents the concluding phase of the present Assembly’s tenure. On the second day, the government also placed a Vote-on-Account for the upcoming financial year. With Assembly elections around the corner, the state opted against presenting a full budget and instead introduced a Vote-on-Account to ensure continuity of essential government expenditure for a limited period until a new government assumes office and passes a regular budget.
Alongside the financial business, an amendment bill is also slated to be introduced during the session.
The proceedings carry added significance as this is the final Assembly session under the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, bringing the legislative term of the Fifteenth Assam Legislative Assembly to a close.
