Tezpur: Two FIRs were lodged against Akhil Gogoi at Tezpur Sadar Police Station on Thursday following his alleged objectionable remarks against AGP and NDA candidate Prithiraj Rabha. The complaints were filed separately by the Asom Yuva Parishad and the Asom Gana Parishad’s youth wing, accusing Gogoi of making derogatory comments during an election campaign in Tezpur. Gogoi had arrived in the town to campaign for opposition alliance candidate Alok Nath.

Condemning the remarks, the organisations demanded that Gogoi refrain from making such statements in the future and issue a public apology. Reacting strongly, Rabha said that the people of Assam were aware of “who is incompetent and irresponsible” and alleged that Gogoi has been attempting to divide the State. He added that the people of Tezpur would give a befitting response to such comments.
AGP president Atul Bora also criticised Gogoi, remarking, “A madman knows no bounds in speech, just as a goat eats anything,” in a sharp rebuke. Bora, who briefly campaigned in Tezpur in support of Rabha, expressed confidence that the NDA would once again form the government in Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Rabha stated that Bora’s visit had boosted the morale of party workers and supporters ahead of the elections.
