Awareness Drive in Anini Highlights Drug Abuse, Women’s Safety and Youth Wellbeing

Itanagar, April 19: An awareness programme addressing critical social challenges affecting women and young people was organised in Anini on April 18 by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women in association with the Dibang Valley Women’s Welfare Society.

Speaking at the event, APSCW Chairperson Yalem Taga Borang drew attention to the increasing menace of drug abuse and its far-reaching consequences on society, urging coordinated efforts to safeguard the future of the younger generation. She also expressed concern over the disproportionate rise in liquor outlets in comparison to essential services, advocating for a more balanced approach to development within communities.

Vice Chairperson Tsering Dolma outlined various initiatives and government schemes aimed at empowering women, underlining the importance of Self-Help Groups in strengthening socio-economic growth. Commission member Kipa Kaya Rughu addressed the issue of domestic violence, informing attendees about legal provisions and support mechanisms available to victims.

The programme also included expert-led sessions covering a range of topics. District Coordinator-cum-Gender Specialist Dopi Tacho discussed legal safeguards against workplace sexual harassment, while C.L. Sahani spoke on cyber safety and responsible online conduct. Aneri Mena highlighted the importance of mental health awareness among youth.

The event commenced with a welcome address by DVWWS Organising Chairman Akunge Miuli and concluded with an interactive session that encouraged open dialogue and participation from attendees. A vote of thanks was delivered by Hachiya Meto.

The programme saw the participation of government officials, students and members of the public, creating a platform for discussion on pressing social issues and promoting awareness about available institutional support systems.
