Gogamukh: A three-day awareness programme on safe pesticide usage and its impact on agriculture and human health concluded successfully in Gogamukh, with participation from 125 local farmers. Held from January 29 to 31, the initiative aimed to promote the judicious and scientific use of pesticides, raise awareness about health risks, environmental safety, and encourage sustainable pest management practices.
The programme opened with a welcome address by Dr. L. K. Baishya, HoD (NRM), who highlighted the dangers of pesticide misuse in fruits, vegetables, and cereals and emphasized the need for eco-friendly farming practices. Dr. Ch. Jamkhokai Mate outlined the programme schedule, focusing on correct pesticide application for crop safety and human well-being. Dr. A. K. Balange, Head APF & CIC, elaborated on the long-term consequences of indiscriminate pesticide use.
Chief Guest D. J. Bora, ADO Dhemaji, encouraged farmers to adopt judicious use of fertilizers and pesticides or transition to organic farming. Guest of Honour Dharmendra Pegu, Panchayat Secretary of Moharicamp, stressed the importance of such awareness programmes for sustainable agriculture.

Technical sessions covered pesticide classification, label interpretation, dosage, health hazards, first aid, use of protective equipment, safe storage, and environmental impacts. Farmers were also introduced to integrated pest management (IPM), biopesticides, and cultural pest control methods, along with practical demonstrations on safe spraying and sprayer calibration.
Essential pest management inputs were distributed to support adoption of safe practices. Coordinated by Dr. Rahul Singh and Dr. Gaibi P., the programme effectively enhanced farmers’ awareness of safe pesticide handling and encouraged health-conscious and sustainable agricultural practices.
