Agartala: Inspector General of the Border Security Force, Tripura Frontier, Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, on Monday expressed concern over the evolving political situation in Bangladesh, stating that the instability is having a direct impact on security dynamics along the Indo-Bangladesh boundary in Tripura.
Speaking to reporters, Chakraborty said Bangladesh is currently being governed by an advisory council rather than an elected administration, a development he described as significant for regional security. He noted that the shift has resulted in consequences that are now being felt along the border, prompting heightened vigilance.
According to the IG, all BSF battalions posted along the Tripura Frontier have been placed on high alert, and extensive preparedness measures are in place. He said steps have been taken to secure Border Out Posts and reinforce existing fencing. The force has also reviewed zero-line patrolling, territorial management beyond the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence, and overall control across the border belt. Chakraborty added that a revised domination strategy is being implemented, with efforts to involve residents living near the border.
He acknowledged that many sections of the current fencing have surpassed their operational lifespan. A proposal for a new breach-proof design has been submitted to the central government. He said the plan is being actively pursued and approval for the construction of the upgraded fencing across more than 500 kilometres is expected soon.
Chakraborty also indicated that the BSF is preparing to move toward technology-driven border security. Plans are underway to incorporate CCTV surveillance, specialised monitoring systems, and early-warning technological solutions across the entire frontier. A dedicated project for this upgrade is in progress, which he said would enable the BSF to establish a cost-effective and comprehensive surveillance network to further strengthen ground-level control.
The IG reiterated that the force remains fully prepared to deal with any emerging situation along the border in light of recent developments across the neighbouring nation.
