Udalguri-Sonitpur, Aug 3: Banyam Sanskritik Khyetra formed a new branch at Rakshasmari in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur district, on Monday and constituted a 21-member committee.
Cultural activist and lyricist Amiyo Sasoni was appointed president in line with a decision of the central committee, while Riya Bhawal was unanimously elected secretary. Mampi Nandi and Manisha Rabha were named vice-presidents, Bonjit Nath assistant secretary, Gita Paik treasurer, Sanjay Rajat and Madhabi Sarkar organising secretaries, and Riya Chachani and Ritashree Barman publicity secretaries.
Before the committee was formed, a general meeting chaired by teacher Sanjay Rajat discussed the organisation’s objectives and future activities. Central committee president Sanjoy Baruah, secretary Dolly Das, Bablu Ansari and Manmayuri Das addressed the gathering.
The meeting also resolved to stage a play titled Joy Zubeen Da, dedicated to the memory of artiste Zubeen Garg, next month. A press conference was later held to announce the new committee and its upcoming programmes.
