‘Bharat Mata Pujan’ Concludes Successfully in Guwahati

Assam CM Dr. Sarma Pays Tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg

Guwahati: On the occasion of Sharadiya Durgotsav, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took part in the annual Bharat Mata Pujan at the Assam Engineering Institute ground, Chandmari, offering his respects to Bharat Mata and paying heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and musical legend Zubeen Garg.

Organized by Pragya, this five-day-long cultural and spiritual celebration, ‘Bharatmata Pujan 5127’, concluded successfully on October 1. Since its inception in 2014, the event has celebrated India’s cultural pride and timeless heritage, aiming to uphold rich traditions, Sanatan values, and the spirit of unity.

The festival featured a series of devotional and cultural programs, including Akhil Bharat Disha Pujan, Kanya Pujan, and Mahiyasī Matri Pujan, drawing thousands of devotees. The inauguration was graced by renowned Sanatan culture scholar Dr. Umesh Chandra Goswami, who delivered an inspiring address. Soulful musical performances by vocalist Malibika Bora further enriched the occasion.

A key highlight was a special musical tribute marking Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s centenary, where over 100 students performed his iconic song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe,” accompanied by dances by students. A touching homage was also paid to Zubeen Garg with a rendition of “Mayabini Ratir Bukut.”

Cultural performances by dance maestro Jatin Goswami, actress Beena Patowary, and singers Dhrubajyoti Bharati, Malibika Bora, among others, drew over 5,000 attendees. Kanya Pujan honored 60 girls from various communities, while Mahiyasī Matri Pujan felicitated ten distinguished women, including Dr. Kiran Bora, Purabi Bora, and Nilima Bora, for their social contributions.

The festival also showcased an exhibition of traditional Assamese puppet dances and an open-air drama depicting the lives and works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg. The event concluded with a message emphasizing the revival of moral and cultural values and reaffirming faith in India’s spiritual and cultural ethos.
