SUALKUCHI, Sept 14: A Bhupendra Sangeet competition organised by the Sualkuchi Sanskritik Sanmilan concluded at Srimanta Sankar Natghar in Sualkuchi on Sunday as part of the closing ceremony of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary year.
Fifty contestants selected from across Assam through a screening process took part in the competition. Bhargabi Goswami of Guwahati secured the first position, followed by Jignasa Kashyap of Bajali in second place and Dhritidipa Kashyap of Nalbari in third.
The winners received cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, along with certificates and mementos.
A commemorative book titled Samanwayar Sutradhar: Bhupen Da, edited by Dipu Gopi R Das and Himangshu Kakati, was also released at the event. Sualkuchi Sanskritik Sanmilan president Mrigen Kumar Das formally unveiled the book.
Hajo-Sualkuchi MLA Prakash Chandra Das, social worker Dr Keshab Kalita, Sualkuchi Zilla Parishad member Dhiraj Mahanta and other dignitaries attended the programme.
