GUWAHATI, Aug. 7: Bir Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha on Thursday challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal to organisations and individuals to stop collecting flood relief materials, saying his organisation would continue gathering assistance for flood-affected people in Sivasagar.
Chaliha accused the government of failing to respond adequately to the flood situation and urged the administration to act responsibly during the crisis.
He also criticised the district administration, alleging that the Deputy Commissioner was ignoring the plight of flood victims.
Chaliha said Bir Lachit Sena would continue collecting and distributing relief materials despite the Chief Minister’s appeal, asserting that the organisation could not abandon people affected by the floods.
His remarks came amid the devastating floods that have affected large parts of Assam, leaving thousands of people in need of food, drinking water, medicines and other essential supplies.
The Bir Lachit Sena leader’s statement signals the organisation’s decision to continue its grassroots relief campaign in Sivasagar despite the government’s appeal against independent collection of flood relief materials.
