Bishnu Kharghoria to Receive GAFF 2026 Lifetime Achievement Honour

Guwahati, Jan 16: Veteran actor Bishnu Kharghoria will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) 2026 for his exceptional contribution to Indian cinema, especially Assamese films, the organisers announced on January 15.

Renowned for his impactful performances in critically acclaimed films such as Xagoroloi Bohudoor, Firingoti and Kollol, Kharghoria is regarded as one of the most distinguished actors of his generation.

GAFF director Monita Borgohain said Kharghoria’s contribution to cinema has been deep and lasting. She said his work is marked by rare integrity, emotional depth and an unwavering dedication to the craft, adding that the festival is honoured to celebrate a life devoted to cinema.

The Lifetime Achievement Honour, instituted as an annual recognition, is awarded to artistes whose body of work has significantly influenced cinematic culture and inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences. The award will be presented during the second edition of GAFF 2026, scheduled to be held in Guwahati from January 22 to 25.

The Guwahati Asian Film Festival is being organised by Trending Now Media with the support of the National Film Development Corporation and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

Kharghoria began his film journey with Bristi in 1974 and went on to build a celebrated career spanning several decades. His notable performances include landmark films such as Kollol (1978), Firingoti (1992), Xagoroloi Bohudoor (1995) and Pokhi (1998), among others.

For his role in Xagoroloi Bohudoor, Kharghoria received the National Film Award (Special Mention), and he was honoured again with the same recognition for Baandhon in 2012. He also won the Best Actor Award at the Singapore International Film Festival in 1996 for Xagoroloi Bohudoor.
