Itanagar, Jan 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has finalised and approved 26 zilla parishad members as its official candidates for the posts of Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) across all districts of the state. Party leaders confirmed the decision on January 4, marking the completion of the party’s preparations for the upcoming ZPC elections.
According to an order issued by the BJP’s state election committee, the candidates were selected after extensive organisational consultations. The process focused on ensuring balanced district-wise representation while prioritising effective leadership and administrative capability at the local level. The party leadership said the move is intended to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance the functioning of district administrations.
Senior BJP leaders stated that the selection aligns with the party’s broader objective of improving coordination between zilla parishads and the state government, thereby accelerating development projects and welfare initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh. The emphasis, they said, is on empowering local self-governing institutions to play a more active role in decision-making and implementation.
The order approving the candidates was signed by state BJP president Kaling Moyong and has been formally communicated to all district party units for necessary follow-up actions. Party sources indicated that district units have been instructed to begin groundwork to ensure smooth coordination and support for the nominated candidates.
Polling for the simultaneous panchayat and civic body elections in Itanagar and Pasighat was held on December 15, with vote counting completed on December 20. BJP leaders expressed confidence that the approved candidates would contribute significantly to strengthening local self-governance and delivering development-oriented administration at the grassroots level.
