BJP Holds Emergency Strategy Meet in Tripura Amid Growing Factional Rift and Strained Ties with Tipra Motha

Agartala: Amid widening factional rifts within Tripura’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and increasing strain with its alliance partner Tipra Motha, the party convened a high-level meeting at its state headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday to review organisational challenges and alliance dynamics ahead of key local elections.

The closed-door meeting, chaired by BJP North East Coordinator and MP Sambit Patra, was attended by state in-charge Rajdeep Roy, state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, ministers, MLAs, and senior office bearers. Party sources said the discussion focused on addressing internal dissent, evaluating performance lapses, and strengthening coordination with Tipra Motha — a crucial ally with strong influence in Tripura’s tribal regions.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BJP Tripura President Rajib Bhattacharjee said, “Our central leaders, including Sambit Patra and Rajdeep Roy, have come to guide us. Today’s session with ministers, MLAs, morcha leaders, and office bearers aims to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ campaigns, and to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31.”

He added that strengthening the party’s organisational structure and grassroots coordination was a key agenda point.

Referring to the recent civil society strike and subsequent violence in the state, Bhattacharjee said, “All our leaders — including Chief Minister Manik Saha, former CM Biplab Kumar Deb, and myself — have strongly condemned the incidents. We must stay united and work for the progress of Tripura. To build a ‘Srestha Tripura’, both tribal and non-tribal communities must contribute equally.”

He further stated that dialogue with Tipra Motha would continue, with regular consultations planned to resolve differences and maintain stability within the ruling alliance as the TTAADC and Village Committee elections draw near.
