BJP Launches Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Assam Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections

Guwahati, Feb 28: With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on the horizon, the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has rolled out a statewide mass outreach campaign titled Jan Ashirwad Yatra, marking the formal commencement of its election preparations. The first phase of the yatra begins on February 28 and will run until March 9, setting the tone for what is expected to be a high-intensity political season in the state.

The campaign was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from the historic Gupteshwar Devalay in Dhekiajuli, located in Sonitpur district. Party leaders described the choice of venue as symbolically significant, underscoring what they characterised as a blend of cultural reverence and political engagement. The launch event witnessed a large turnout of party workers and supporters, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and anticipation.

BJP MP Pradan Baruah said the primary aim of the Jan Ashirwad Yatra is to facilitate direct interaction between the Chief Minister and the public while seeking their blessings ahead of the upcoming electoral battle. He noted that several national leaders, along with members of the state BJP committee, would join the journey across multiple constituencies during its course.

According to Baruah, the yatra will also function as a platform to communicate the achievements of the BJP government over the past decade, with particular emphasis on initiatives undertaken during Sarma’s five-year tenure as Chief Minister. He stated that the outreach would provide citizens with detailed insights into the government’s developmental record and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring the programme’s success.

Political observers see the Jan Ashirwad Yatra as a calculated effort to consolidate grassroots support, energise party cadres and reinforce the BJP’s electoral narrative well in advance of the Assembly polls. As the first phase covers key regions across Assam, the campaign signals the beginning of an intense and closely watched contest leading up to 2026.
