Guwahati, March 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party is reportedly planning a major reshuffle in its candidate list for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, with around 10–15 sitting MLAs likely to be denied party tickets.
According to party sources, the BJP is considering fielding new faces in several constituencies currently represented by its legislators. The party is also expected to prioritise young candidates and women in its selection process as part of its strategy for the 2026 Assembly polls.
Among the names reportedly under consideration for replacement are Hemanga Thakuria, Parmananda Rajbonshi, Ramkrishna Ghosh, Darsing Ronghang, Bidya Sing Engleng, Nandita Garlosa, Rupsing Teron, Pramod Borthakur, Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Surendra Phukan, Chakradhar Gogoi, Prasanta Phukan, Diganta Ghatowar, Hitendra Nath Goswami and Tarash Gowalla who got elected to Rajya Sabha recently.
Similarly Jogen Mohan, who also has recently been elected to the Rajya Sabha, BJP will introduce a new candidate from the constituency.
Similarly, Atul Bora from Dispur is also reportedly among those whose candidature may be reconsidered.
Party insiders said the BJP is expected to release its first list of candidates by March 16 as preparations intensify for the Assembly elections.
