BJP MLA Manab Deka on Monday alleged that the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) was creating a “water bomb” that could cause severe damage to Guwahati in the future.
Speaking to reporters on July 13, the Lakhimpur legislator claimed that the activities being carried out at USTM posed a threat to the city. However, he did not provide specific details or evidence to support his allegations.
“USTM is preparing a water bomb. That water bomb will destroy Guwahati,” Deka alleged.
The MLA also targeted the Congress party, alleging that it had close links with USTM and its Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque. “Congress and USTM are like siblings. There is a close relationship between Congress and USTM owner Mahbubul Hoque,” he claimed.
Deka’s remarks came amid continued criticism of USTM and its leadership by BJP leaders, who have raised concerns over the institution’s activities.
USTM, Mahbubul Hoque and the Congress party had not issued any immediate response to the allegations.
