BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin Begins Assam Visit Ahead of 2026 Assembly Polls

BJP national working president Nitin Nabin is set to arrive in Guwahati on December 26 for a two-day visit to Assam, with senior party leaders indicating that key discussions during the trip will help chart the party’s strategy for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. This will be Nabin’s first visit to the state since assuming the national post earlier this month.

During his December 26–27 itinerary, Nabin will attend the BJP Assam state executive meeting at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra and participate in a series of organisational engagements. Party workers accorded him a reception at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on arrival, reflecting the importance being attached to the visit within the state unit.

A central component of the tour will be Nabin’s visit to the BJP’s Assam headquarters, where he is scheduled to sit in on a meeting of the state core committee. Leaders are expected to review the prevailing political situation, assess organisational readiness and take stock of recent developments as the party gears up for the next assembly elections, due in March–April 2026.

BJP Assam Pradesh vice-president Manoj Baruah said the state executive meeting would focus on organisational issues and electoral planning, with detailed deliberations aimed at finalising a clear roadmap for the upcoming polls. He added that the discussions would also cover policy priorities and strategies needed to strengthen the party’s position across the state.

The meeting will include a special address by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and will be presided over by BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia. Members of Parliament, MLAs, state office-bearers, executive and council members, along with around 800 party workers, are expected to take part. Meetings of the state election management committee and the manifesto drafting committee are also scheduled for December 27.

Nabin, 45, was appointed BJP national working president on December 14. Party leaders have linked his elevation to a broader leadership push aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, as the BJP prepares for a crucial phase of electoral and policy challenges in Assam and beyond.
