BJP Releases Candidate List for Assam Assembly Elections 2026, Fields Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari

Guwahati, March 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, March 19, announced its list of candidates for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2026, covering a broad range of constituencies across the state.

The list, cleared by the party’s central leadership, includes nominees from key urban centres, tribal regions and politically significant districts, reflecting a strategy aimed at maintaining its statewide electoral presence.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been fielded once again from the Jalukbari constituency, considered a stronghold of the party. Senior leaders such as Chandramohan Patowary (Tihu), Ranjeet Kumar Dass (Bhowanipur-Sorbhog), and Pijush Hazarika (Jagiroad) have also been renominated, signalling continuity in leadership.

The party has named candidates in strategically important constituencies across Lower, Central and Upper Assam, including Palasbari, Rangia, Dispur, Guwahati Central, Mangaldai, Nagaon, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Tinsukia, underscoring its intent to retain influence in regions with diverse voting patterns.

In tea garden areas and tribal-dominated seats, the BJP has opted for a mix of experienced leaders and new faces. Constituencies such as Tamulpur (ST), Dudhnai (ST) and Dhemaji (ST) are expected to witness close contests, making candidate selection crucial for the party’s prospects.

The inclusion of leaders like Pradyut Bordoloi from Dispur, following recent political realignments, points to the BJP’s strategy of expanding its leadership base by inducting experienced figures from rival parties. The move is likely to have a bearing on local electoral dynamics as the campaign gains momentum.
