BJP Steps Up Preparations in Karbi Anglong Ahead of 2026 Election

Karbi Anglong, January 7: As part of its preparations for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified organisational activities across Assam’s hill districts, with a series of high-level and district-level meetings focusing on grassroots strengthening and a review of developmental initiatives.

On January 6, Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika chaired an important party meeting in Diphu with the BJP’s Karbi Anglong leadership. The meeting was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, sitting MLAs, Executive Members, Members of Autonomous Council (MACs), senior KAAC officials, and the BJP presidents of both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. Deliberations centred on electoral strategies for the upcoming Assembly polls and an assessment of ongoing and proposed development works in the region.

The organisational momentum continued on January 7 with the 24th Executive Meeting of the 13th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, convened in Diphu under the leadership of CEM Tuliram Ronghang. The meeting discussed key administrative and developmental issues concerning the autonomous council area.

Simultaneously, district-level BJP executive meetings were held in both hill districts. In West Karbi Anglong, the meeting took place at the BJP office in Ghelani, Donkamokam, under the chairmanship of District BJP President Radip Ronghang. In Karbi Anglong district, the executive meeting was held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Diphu, presided over by District BJP President Roland Killing.

Party leaders and workers underscored the need to further strengthen grassroots networks and ensure thorough preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections, expected in April–May. Party sources also hinted at the possibility of several new faces being fielded as BJP candidates, signalling a strategy to inject fresh energy and expand the party’s appeal in the hill districts. These coordinated activities reflect the BJP’s focused push to consolidate its position in the autonomous council areas ahead of the crucial polls.
