Karbi Anglong : Key candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted their nomination papers today at the District Commissioner’s Office in Hamren for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, scheduled for April 9, 2026. Tuliram Ronghang, the incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), filed his nomination for the 111-Rongkhang (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency. At the same time, Dr. Habe Teron submitted his papers for the 112-Amri (ST) constituency.
The candidates were accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, Howraghat MLA Dorsing Ronghang, several Executive Members (EMs) and MACs (Members of Autonomous Council) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the BJP district president, and enthusiastic party workers. Both constituencies are located in West Karbi Anglong district, falling under the jurisdiction of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. These filings represent a key milestone in the electoral preparations for the hill regions. Both BJP candidates are anticipated to face direct contests primarily from alliance nominees of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the All Party Hill Leaders’ Conference (APHLC). Meanwhile, the party faces some internal challenges in the broader Karbi Anglong area. There are reports of discontent among certain ticket aspirants who were not selected. Speculation is rife that one of them may contest as an independent from the Diphu (ST) LAC. Similarly, an aspirant from Howraghat LAC is mentioned as a potential independent contender from Howraghat LAC. In Bokajan LAC, some local voters are reportedly urging former MLA to enter the fray independently.
The situation underscores the need for effective management by Tuliram Ronghang and other state-level BJP leadership to minimize any potential damage and maintain party unity in these crucial seats ahead of the polls. The BJP has expressed confidence in sweeping the Karbi Anglong region, with groundwork and community outreach already intensified.
