Black Market in Subsidized Rice Busted in Gauripur, Two Arrested

Dhubri: A black market racket involving government-subsidized rice has been exposed in Gauripur, raising serious concerns over the diversion of food meant for the poor.

Acting on a tip-off, Gauripur police carried out a covert operation in the Alamganj area and intercepted a truck loaded with smuggled rice. Investigators revealed that the rice, distributed free under government welfare schemes, had been repacked into different sacks to disguise its source.

The seized truck, bearing registration number AS-17-C-9152, was taken into custody along with two suppliers. The arrested persons have been identified as Dhananjay Hajong and Ranjit Hajong. Police confirmed that the truck and the accused have been brought to the station, and a case has been registered against them. Authorities say further investigation is underway to identify the wider network behind the illegal trade.

The exposure of the racket has drawn sharp criticism from locals, who allege that such black marketing deprives genuine beneficiaries of their rightful share of food security.
