Block level awareness on agroforestry organised

Guwahati: Aaranyak, in collaboration with the Assam Agroforestry Development Board (AADB), organised a Block Level Awareness Programme on Promotion of Agroforestry under the RKVY, Assam initiative.

Altogether 38 farmers participated in the programme, which aimed to spread awareness about the benefits of agroforestry and encourage its adoption at the grassroots level.

Resource persons explained how agroforestry integrating trees with crops and livestock can improve soil fertility, provide sustainable income opportunities, and help farmers adapt to climate change. The farmers were also briefed on various government schemes, subsidies, and scientific practices related to agroforestry.

The interactive session created a platform for farmers to raise their concerns and share local experiences, making the programme both practical and participatory. Aaranyak (www.aaranyak.org) representatives emphasised that the active role of farmers is vital in scaling up agroforestry for ecological sustainability and rural prosperity.

The programme concluded with a collective call to promote agroforestry as a nature-based solution for better livelihoods and environmental conservation.

Mrinalini Khanikar of Assam Agroforestry Development Board explained about the agroforestry and its relevancies. She talked about the outcome of Agroforestry practices.

Dharmendra Kumar Das, Range Officer, Lakhipur Forest Range described the Tree Out of Forest, selection of trees for Agroforestry and preparation of nursery bed.

Dr. Putul Bhuyan of Aaranyak explained about the various Agroforestry Models and site selection for nursery. Anjan Baruah of Aaranyak moderated the programme and he talked about Bio-fence and its benefits & effectiveness. The Pukhuripara Panchayat President Mr. Aswini Basumatary and Aaranyak ECN members of that area participated in the awareness programme.
