Udalguri-Sonitpur, Aug 5: The Bodoland Journalists’ Association (BJA) celebrated its 17th Foundation Day with programmes across the five districts of the Bodoland Territorial Council, including a day-long event organised by its Udalguri district committee at the Tangla Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.
The programme began with the hoisting of the organisational flag by district president Gunajit Das, followed by a tribute to departed souls led by Dibakar Boro. Participants also paid homage to the victims of the recent floods in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts and expressed solidarity with the affected families.
An open discussion chaired by Gunajit Das was attended by BJA adviser Gautam Jyoti Talukdar, former president Bapan Chandra Sarma, Tangla Sahitya Sabha president Ghateswar Baruah, secretary Shyamal Kumar Das, district representative Nagen Baruah and others. The speakers discussed the association’s objectives and the challenges facing the journalism profession.
The participants expressed concern over the growing criticism of mainstream journalists due to the activities of alleged imposter journalists and attributed the problem to digital media organisations appointing correspondents without adequately assessing their qualifications and ethical standards.
