A man’s body was recovered from the Dikhow River in Assam’s Sivasagar on July 25, with family members suspecting it to be that of Amlan Borgohain of Mechagarh, who had gone missing after being swept away by strong flood currents earlier this week.
According to the family, Amlan was washed away by the swollen river on July 23 after he and his friends had gone to witness the floodwaters.
The body was found lodged against a bamboo clump beneath the New Dikhow Bridge in Sivasagar town. Police and disaster response personnel reached the spot, recovered the body and initiated the identification process.
The recovery comes amid a series of flood-related fatalities in Assam, where the continuing deluge has led to a rising death toll and widespread devastation across several districts.
