Bollywood Mourns the Loss of Legendary Actor Dharmendra, the ‘He-Man of Indian Cinema’

Mumbai: The Indian film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” who died at the age of 89, marking the end of an era in Hindi cinema.

According to reports, the legendary actor had been critically ill and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, where several Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Ameesha Patel arrived late Monday night to pay their respects.

Born on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali village of Punjab’s Ludhiana district, Dharmendra made his debut with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960). His breakout role came six years later with Phool Aur Patthar (1966) opposite Meena Kumari, catapulting him to stardom and establishing him as one of the most charismatic heroes of his generation.

Over a career spanning six decades, Dharmendra starred in more than 300 films, creating an unmatched record of hits in Hindi cinema. His unforgettable performances in Sholay, Satyakam, Raja Jani, Seeta Aur Geeta, Kahani Kismat Ki, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Charas, Azaad, and Dillagi continue to resonate with audiences.
