Bongaigaon, June 23: The Bongaigaon district administration has disqualified Rangapani Gaon Panchayat President Kohinoor Khatun following an inquiry into allegations concerning discrepancies in her educational qualification certificate.
Khatun had initially been elected as a ward member from Ward No. 1 of the Rangapani Gaon Panchayat and was later chosen as president by fellow elected members of the body.
According to official sources, a complaint was submitted before the Chief Executive Officer of the Bongaigaon Zila Parishad alleging that the educational qualification declared in the affidavit filed during the election process was fake and contained inconsistencies.
Acting on the complaint, the district administration conducted an inquiry into the matter. The investigation reportedly found merit in the allegations, following which she was declared disqualified from holding the post.
The development has triggered discussion in the area regarding the verification process of documents submitted by candidates during local body elections. Further administrative procedures to fill the vacant post are expected to be undertaken in accordance with provisions of the Panchayati Raj Act.
