BPF to Contest Assam Assembly Polls as NDA Ally: Hagrama

Kokrajhar: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) will contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections as a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), BTC Chief and senior BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary said on Saturday. Mohilary made the announcement while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the foundation stone–laying ceremony for a 100-seat, three-storeyed RCC girls’ hostel at Bineshwar Brahma Engineering College in Kokrajhar. The project, estimated to cost Rs 8.20 crore, will be funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) during the 2025–26 financial year.

Stating that the BPF is already a part of the NDA, Mohilary said the party is fully prepared to contest the 2026 Assam Assembly elections under the alliance. He added that seat-sharing arrangements among NDA partners would be finalised by the alliance leadership at an appropriate time. However, Mohilary categorically ruled out any seat-sharing arrangement with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). While acknowledging that UPPL is a part of the NDA at both the state and central levels, he asserted that the BPF would not share Assembly seats with UPPL in the BTC area.

He further clarified that the BPF would have no objection if the NDA leadership allocates seats to UPPL in constituencies outside the BTR. Nevertheless, he reiterated that there would be no seat-sharing agreement with UPPL within the Bodoland region. The statement is expected to have significant implications for electoral dynamics in Bodoland ahead of the Assembly polls.
