BRO Steps Up Restoration in North Sikkim After Landslide Disrupts Key Route

Gangtok, April 11: In the aftermath of a landslide that disrupted connectivity in North Sikkim, Additional Director General Border Roads (East) Jitendra Prasad visited the affected stretch at Taramchu to assess the situation and review ongoing restoration efforts.

Taramchu, situated in a strategically important and ecologically sensitive region of Sikkim, has recently experienced road blockages due to landslide activity, impacting movement and supply lines in the area.

During the visit, Prasad carried out an on-site inspection and interacted with personnel of the Border Roads Organisation, who are engaged in clearance and repair operations. He evaluated the progress of the work and directed officials to expedite fresh measures aimed at restoring connectivity at the earliest.

Officials present during the inspection said the ADGBR (East) stressed the critical importance of maintaining road access in remote and border regions, noting that such infrastructure is vital for both local communities and logistical operations.

He also reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening connectivity in difficult terrains, particularly in border areas where roads serve as lifelines for civilian and strategic requirements.

The visit is believed to have boosted the morale of BRO personnel working under challenging conditions, as efforts continue to clear debris, stabilise the affected stretch, and reopen the route.
