Bongaigaon: A police constable deployed for election duty in Assam died while on duty at Jogighopa in Bongaigaon district on Sunday, officials confirmed. The deceased has been identified as Dayanidhi Singh, a member of the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), 60th Battalion. He was deployed in Assam as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing Assam Legislative Assembly elections.

According to officials, Singh was stationed at a temporary police camp set up at the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub in Jogighopa. He reportedly fell ill suddenly while performing his duty and was immediately rushed to the Chapatala Community Health Centre for medical attention.
However, doctors at the health centre declared him dead on arrival. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Authorities stated that all necessary legal procedures have been initiated, and the body has been sent to Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause.
Police officials have launched an inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden demise of the constable. The incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing election preparations, highlighting the challenges faced by security personnel deployed in demanding conditions.
