Buli Gogoi Becomes a Symbol of Self-Reliance in Nazira

Sivasagar: Buli Gogoi of Geleki Chelchali village in Nazira has carved out a remarkable story of self-reliance and entrepreneurship through her dedication to traditional attire and handicrafts.

After completing her education, Gogoi began her journey in 2014 with just a single sewing machine, stitching clothes to support herself and her family. With determination and hard work, she gradually built a stable livelihood, successfully taking care of her two children while strengthening her skills in traditional design and tailoring.

Today, Gogoi runs a permanent shop near Dhodar Ali in Nazira town, offering a wide range of traditional dresses, jewellery and cultural items. She also sets up a temporary outlet at the Geleki Kamalabari picnic spot during festivals and special occasions, where her products attract a large number of visitors.

Her shop features diverse traditional attire from across the Northeast, including Ahom community dresses, many of which are designed and stitched by Gogoi herself. The steady growth of her business has not only made her financially independent but has also generated employment opportunities for others. Buli Gogoi’s inspiring journey has become a source of motivation for many women in the area, encouraging them to take up self-employment and small-scale entrepreneurial ventures.
