Cachar Launches 90-Day Child Protection Drive, DC Calls Safety “Non-Negotiable”

Cachar: The Cachar district administration has launched a 90-day campaign to strengthen vigilance against child labour, child marriage and abuse across the district. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, inaugurated the initiative—Suroxito Saisob Sunali Assam—at the DC Office on Thursday, stressing that child protection is “non-negotiable” and a collective responsibility.

Yadav directed all departments to stay alert and report violations immediately to the District Child Protection Officer or Child Helpline 1098. He warned of strict action against child labour and child marriage, and instructed the Labour Department and the District Child Protection Unit to conduct raids in hotels, dhabas, brick kilns and workshops. Awareness activities will be intensified in remote areas to curb early marriages.

Assistant Commissioner Anjali Kumari highlighted inter-departmental coordination, linking child safety with education, health, policing and social welfare. Labour Commissioner Rana Ingti explained procedures for rescue drives and rehabilitation under the Child Labour Act.

The DCPU is also offering ₹4,000 sponsorships for vulnerable schoolchildren, including orphans and children of single parents.

Health, legal and education departments, along with civil society groups, will run targeted interventions. Yadav urged collective commitment, saying an alert administration and informed community are the “strongest shield” for children in Cachar.
