Cachar Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Running Illegal Medical Practice with Fake Degrees

Cachar Police have arrested another individual in their ongoing crackdown against illegal medical practitioners, officials said, after uncovering forged qualifications allegedly used to run an unauthorised clinic in the district. The accused has been identified as Shamim Ahmed Laskar, a resident of the Bhaga area under Dholai.

The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Dr Abhijit Neog, Anti-Quackery and Vigilance Officer of the Assam Council of Medical Registration (ACMR). Acting on the complaint, police conducted a raid on Saturday at Laskar’s medical chamber, where he was taken into custody.

During the operation, officers recovered forged MBBS certificates and several related documents from the premises. Preliminary findings suggest that Laskar had been operating the clinic illegally for a significant period, raising serious concerns about patient safety and public health.

Police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the full scope of the alleged illegal practice and to examine whether any accomplices were involved. Authorities also noted that this arrest is part of a sustained enforcement drive in the district, during which around 20 individuals posing as doctors have been apprehended in recent months for practising medicine without valid qualifications.
