Centre Prioritising Education, Development in Northeast: Union Minister Nimuben Bambhaniya

Kohima, Feb 22: Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya on February 21 said the Centre is giving special emphasis to strengthening the education sector and accelerating holistic development across the northeastern states.

Addressing students and teachers at Government Middle School in Kuda village, Dimapur, the minister highlighted the Union government’s vision of building a self-reliant region under the banner of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” She also stressed the importance of promoting ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives to encourage indigenous products and boost local economies.

Bambhaniya said the government remains committed to the welfare of the poor, youth, farmers and women, adding that education plays a pivotal role in nation-building. She emphasised the need to ensure clean drinking water, proper sanitation and adequate infrastructure in schools to foster a healthy and conducive learning environment.

Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), she noted that it promotes holistic and skill-based learning, including instruction in the mother tongue, to help children become confident and self-reliant. She added that modernisation of schools is underway nationwide to enhance the quality of education and upgrade facilities for students.

The minister also lauded a special cultural performance presented by the students, describing it as a reflection of their talent and enthusiasm.

Earlier, Duoneinuo Kire, Chairman of the School Management Board, welcomed the minister and spoke about the institution’s long-standing contribution to foundational education in the area. She submitted a representation seeking enhancement of wages for mid-day meal cooks and expressed hope that the matter would receive sympathetic consideration.
