Kohima, Jan 22: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Social Justice and Empowerment, B L Verma, on Wednesday said the Northeast has witnessed a clear and measurable transformation over the past decade, attributing the change to the Centre’s sustained focus on inclusive development since 2014.
During a two-day visit to Nagaland, Verma reviewed the implementation of several centrally sponsored schemes in Chumoukedima district, assessing their impact at the grassroots level. His itinerary included inspections of fair price shops operating under the public distribution system, Anganwadi centres supporting child nutrition and maternal health, and the Centre for Disease Control and Cancer Treatment at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, a major healthcare facility serving the region.
After a detailed review meeting on central projects, the minister told reporters that the progress achieved in Nagaland over the past ten years was evident on the ground. He pointed to improved road connectivity, expanded healthcare facilities and more efficient delivery of welfare schemes, saying these initiatives have significantly enhanced access to essential services for people across the state.
Verma stressed that the Union government remains firmly committed to the comprehensive and balanced development of the Northeast, with particular emphasis on remote and border areas. He said strengthening institutions and speeding up project execution would continue to be priorities to ensure that development benefits reach the intended beneficiaries without delay.
Officials said the visit forms part of the Centre’s wider effort to closely monitor flagship programmes in the Northeast and reinforce its long-term strategy for the region’s social, economic and infrastructural growth.
